Handwriting Classes

Helping children build confident, legible, and automatic handwriting skills.

At Growing Milestones Pediatric Therapy, our OT-led handwriting classes are designed for both early writers and children who struggle with letter formation, spacing, reversals, or writing fluency.

Handwriting is more than neat letters. It requires strong fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, body awareness, and attention. When these foundations are supported, writing becomes easier and more automatic — allowing your child to focus on expressing ideas with confidence.

Who Are These Classes For?

Handwriting classes may benefit children who:

  • Reverse letters or numbers

  • Have messy or inconsistent writing

  • Struggle with spacing or alignment

  • Write slowly or fatigue easily

  • Avoid writing tasks

  • Feel frustrated during homework

  • Are just beginning to learn letters and numbers

Our Two Signature Programs

✏️ Tiny Explorers (Toddlers & Early Learners)

A playful introduction to pre-writing skills, shapes, numbers, and early letter formation.

Through multisensory activities and movement-based learning, children build:

  • Pre-writing strokes

  • Pencil grasp foundations

  • Visual-motor skills

  • Hand strength and coordination

  • Early symbol recognition

This program focuses on building readiness — not pressure.

✍️ Handwriting Heroes (School-Age Children)

A structured handwriting mastery program designed to improve legibility, fluency, and confidence.

We work on:

Proper Letter & Number Formation

Children learn correct uppercase and lowercase formation to build automatic writing patterns.

Reducing Reversals

Targeted exercises support visual-motor integration and correct letter orientation.

Spacing & Alignment

Students practice writing short sentences on age-appropriate paper, improving spacing, sizing, and baseline alignment.

Writing Endurance & Pace

Activities strengthen hand muscles and improve writing stamina.

Self-Monitoring Skills

Children learn to identify and correct errors independently, building ownership and confidence.

A Multisensory, OT-Led Approach

Unlike tutoring programs, our classes are grounded in pediatric occupational therapy.

We incorporate:

  • Gross motor writing activities

  • Sensory-motor exercises

  • Fine motor strengthening

  • Visual-motor integration tasks

  • Creative and themed writing experiences

Because handwriting depends on the whole body, we address posture, core stability, regulation, and attention alongside writing mechanics.

The Goal of Our Handwriting Classes

The goal is not simply neat writing.

It is confident, efficient, and comfortable handwriting that supports academic success and self-expression.

At Growing Milestones, handwriting instruction is individualized, supportive, and always focused on building strong foundations first.
